CALLER ID SPOOFING
Definition:
Caller ID Spoofing is changing the information that is display on the dailed phone to display a different number than the number that dialed it. For example, a call called made to 555-555-0001 from 555-555-1112 could display that it was dialed from 301-301-1212 instead of 555-555-1112.
History:
Caller ID spoofing has been around for years. bill collectors, private investigators, and law enforcement were the main users of the service. Phone hackers had several ways to spoof caller ID as well. With the discovery VOIP (Voice Over IP) several companies started offering Caller ID spoofing as a service. With most companies, you purchase credits (time) to use for spoofing. Most services also allow you to change your voice and record the call.
